From a wreath Argent and Azure, on four ocean waves of the last edged Celeste a floating navigation buoy, the lantern radiating eight beams of light, all surmounting a wreath of two sprigs of walnut Proper; overall, a stylized lure of albatross wings Argent edged and garnished Sable.
SHIELD
Dark blue with white and scarlet represents the Coast Guard and the United States. The silver swords denote readiness and National Defense. They are also a canting reference to the rare Silversword plant, native to Hawaii and so recalling the homeport of the Walnut. The fasces symbolizes authority and law enforcement; the trident, indicates authority at sea. Scarlet signifies courage; gold denotes the qualities emphasized in the ship's motto: SERVICE, EXCELLENCE, PROFESSIONALISM.
CREST
The navigation buoy symbolizes the Walnut's primary mission of maintenance of buoys and lighthouses; the secondary missions are denoted by the four waves supporting it. The beams of light recall The eight main islands of the State of Hawaii, the ship's homeport. The wreath refers to the ship's name, and signifies honor. The albatross wings represent the search and rescue mission and protection of the marine environment. White and black signify respectively integrity and strength. Gold denotes excellence.
